'Jeugdkrakercompetitie'

The national ‘Jeugdkrakercompetitie’ is a competition on internet for children from the highest group of the primary school. This competition is played annually. By answering the questions, the children learn more about the possibilities from internet. I think there are different pedagogical approaches. The children must work together, so there is collaborative learning. And they have to find an answer on the question that is presented. There are different ways to find the right solution, so the children construct their own knowledge. I think this is inquiry learning.
Last year I worked on a school where they participate in this competition. The children were very enthousiastic. The children play against children from other primary schools, that makes it very exciting.
I think this is a good example of collaborative learning. If the children want a place in the final, they really have to work together, otherwise they will not beat the other schools.

  1. Hey,
this is like on big WebQuest competition. it looks so much fun! This would also be really interesting for the research Amber Walraven does on information skills.
May i ask how long the childeren take to answer each question?

  2. I'm sorry, something went wrong. Here's my reaction.

    Hi Dorien,

I think you've did a good job in finding an interesting online learning environment that isn't related to a school subject. If I've read your topic well, I think they learn a lot about information skills and the use of Internet. Will these skills also be registred by the teachers and will the parents see how the children develop in this online learning environment?
I've another question about the dangers of the Internet. Will the pupils be warned about the dangers and learn something how to use the Internet in the right way?

    Best wishes,
    Marlijne Noordink

  3. Hi Dorien,

I read your interesting post and checked some of the solutions on the website, but did you hear any reactions from the teachers who were involved with this project? Did they have 'enough' technology knowledge by themselves to instruct the pupils? And what were their experiences with doing this and the competition in general?

    Thomas
